SoberUp
Sobriety Tracking App for people with high alcohol dependence
What is 'soberup'?
ONE-MINUTE IDEA
Track your sobriety journey
Since Covid 19 there has been a significant increase in alcohol consumption which led to physical, mental and societal problems. The biggest problem is the drinking pattern where people quit, then relapse within a year. I wanted to address this problem and designed a Sobriety Tracking App called “SoberUp”.

Why do people relapse?
According to a National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) survey, 40 to 60 percent of people who decide to quit drinking fail at least once within a year. Among them, I discovered that mental health-related factors such as anxiety, depression, and trauma were the biggest obstacles to quitting alcohol.

What needs to be done?
For people with high alcohol dependence, staying sober for a long time is the biggest goal to reach. I monitored data from sobriety support groups and healthcare organizations to identify the three most important key points.
Mental Health Care
- Depression and anxiety are one of the main causes of relapse. It’s necessary to be aware of this and take a proper acton such as joining a support group, getting treatment therapy or counseling with an expert.
Healthy relationship & Supportive Environment
- The healthier you have relationships with people around you, such as family and friends, the more likely you are to keep drinking for a long time.
- Creating a community or a support group with other people who are on the same boat and sharing experiences and advice are also very helpful.
Knowing what triggers them to relapse
- It’s important to know what triggers them to relapse and how to prevent it.
- Writing journals help collect thoughts and emotions
What are the solutions?
Solution 01 - Tracking
How long has it been since you quit drinking? SoberUp will calculate the amount of money and calories you’ve saved.
Getting sober and clean requires a long journey like a marathon. There are many cases where people quit because they don’t see the immediate result. But with the prolonged sobriety, being able to see the amount of money and calories saved in numbers, you will feel motivated and rewarding.
Solution 02 - Journaling
How are you feeling today?
Log in your mood and write about your day. This simple activity will help you manage anxiety, reduce stress and track symptoms which later you can recognize triggers and better control them.
Solution 03 - Community
You may be tempted to think that you don’t need support after therapy or rehab program. However, for you to be able to achieve a long-term sobriety, peer support is a must.
You’ll able to meet other people who are also recovering from alcohol and share experiences and tips. Connecting with other people will make you less likely to relapse and focus on prioritizing your recovery.
